Performance and Power
For many drivers, a sporty two-seater is what springs to mind at the mention of performance and drivability. The BMW Z4 Roadster, which starts at $49,700, is one of the sportiest additions to the BMW lineup. Drivers have a choice between a 240-hp 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder engine and a 300- to 335-hp 3.0L turbo 4-cylinder engine. Equipped with the 335-hp 3.0L engine and a 7-speed double-clutch transmission, the top-tier Z4 sDrive35is – $66,350 starting MSRP – accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds.
Starting at $47,950, the new 2017 Mercedes-Benz SLC Roadster features two engines: a 241-hp 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder engine and a 362-hp 3.0L turbo V6 engine. Both trim levels – the entry-level SLC 300 and the fully-loaded AMG® SLC 43 – are harnessed by a 9-speed automatic transmission for an inimitably smooth ride. Capable of soaring to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, the AMG® SLC 43 is quicker on the uptake than even the most powerful Z4 Roadster. What’s more, the AMG® SLC 43 goes for a much lower starting MSRP of $60,300.
Luxury and Convenience
Premium SUVs and SAVs are designed for both comfort and expedience. Starting at $54,700, the 2016 BMW X5 SAV is a prime example. The X5 offers a maximum cargo capacity of 66 cubic feet and can tow up to 5,952 pounds. The luxuriously styled cabin welcomes drivers and passengers with the following features:
- A leather-wrapped, multi-functional steering wheel
- Heated front seats
- Authentic wood triM
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Emergency telematics
- A power sunroof/moonroof
- An electronic trunk lid
Priced at a base rate of $51,100, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV includes all of those features and more! Muscular and fit for any journey, the GLE can tow up to 6,600 pounds and offers a massive 80.3-cubic-foot cargo area, making it a smart choice for medium-sized Chicago families. Despite its lower starting MSRP, the GLE emphasizes safety with standard PRESAFE® and COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS® – neither of which are found on the base X5.
