Mercedes-Benz Earns Another Top Safety Pick Designation

When you see or hear about a Mercedes-Benz model like the E-Class, you probably immediately think of executive styling and unmatched luxury. But that's not the only thing Mercedes-Benz is good at engineering into every single one of their models. Safety is also a top concern of the German automaker, and many of their models have earned Top Safety Pick designations from the IIHS this year.

The C-Class, GLK-Class, and M-Class were recently joined by the E-Class on the list of Mercedes-Benz models to get the Top Safety Pick designation. This means it earned a top rating of Good on the frontal offset, side impact, and roof strength tests. It also earned a top rating of Good for the rear-crash head restraint test.

Not only will it keep you safe in the event of a collision, Mercedes-Benz has been careful to include technology that will help prevent accidents.

For example:

-PRE-SAFE technology senses a collision before it happens, and then it tightens the seatbelts, adjusts the front head restraints and passenger seat, and even close the windows and sunroof.
-DISTRONIC PLUS with PRE-SAFE Brake scans the road ahead with radar sensors to pick up slow or stopped traffic, and PRE-SAFE Braking initiates up to 40 percent of the brake power and alerts the driver.  If the driver fails to respond, the system can apply 100 percent of the braking power.
-ATTENTION ASSIST learns a driver's habits, and can detect if they're becoming drowsy. It also detects other factors (weather, road conditions), and if the driver is getting too sleepy, it sounds an alarm.
-Active Blind Spot Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist: radar sensors in the rear bumper detect other vehicles in the blind spot and light a red warning light in the side mirror. This is especially helpful on multi-lane highways, where an alarm will go off if the blinker is turned on to switch lanes. Lane Keeping senses the lines in the road, and if you begin to drift into another lane, the steering wheel will vibrate as a warning
