Mercedes-Benz is preparing to a new model targeted to compete with the Audi TT, the Mercedes-Benz compact SLA roadster.
Originally based on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class , the Mercedes-Benz SLA concept debuted in 2000 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. It's rumored, though, that the production version will be based on the new Mercedes-Benz B-Class, which makes the SLA the first Mercedes-Benz roadster to ever include front-wheel drive.
To transmit the engine's power into an unforgettable driving experience, Mercedes- Benz will incorporate their pending seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission as well as feature a 1.6-liter, turbocharged, direct-injection, four-cylinder petrol engine. A conventional-six-speed manual transmission will also be available along with a diesel variant.
Features of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz SLA have been vigilantly designed, such as the easy-to-use soft-top, the retro-inspired cockpit, the rich leather, the high-performance LED headlamps, and the strategically-placed rollover bars. In addition, the body is designed using a lightweight, hybrid mix of aluminum sections and high-grade plastics.
Of course it's likely that the Mercedes-Benz SLA specs might evolve or advance some in the future so stay tuned with Mercedes-Benz of Chicago to find out exactly where Mercedes takes the SLA.
